A first for Nick

Last night I (Nick) felt our baby move for the first time! Robyn was laying in bed and she called me in because she felt her moving. I put my hand on Robyn's belly and a few seconds later I felt her give me a high 5. (Some people would say that she "kicked" me but I prefer to say that she gave daddy a high 5.) I was very excited to feel her for the first time. I was also a little surprised because at Robyn's doctor's appointment yesterday she was told that I probably wouldn't be able to feel her for several more weeks.

Big news!

On Monday night Robyn and I prayed long and hard for the interview that I had on Tuesday afternoon. I've been looking for a new job for a while and really hoped to find one soon, before the baby comes. I like where I work now but I really needed something that pays a little better and I especially needed something closer to home (I currently have a 64.8 round trip commute).

The interview on Wednesday was with a local company called Cooper T. Smith. The company is over 100 years old and owns about 20 different companies throughout the southeast. The position I interviewed for is similar to what I'm currently doing but is different in many ways at the same time. The interview started at 3:00 and lasted for about an hour. They told me that I would probably hear back from them in 2 weeks. Leaving the interview I felt confident in how I did but soon began to think of things that I wish I would have said. All I could do was take comfort in what Robyn and I prayed earlier in the day: If God wanted me to have the job there was nothing I could do to mess it up, and if he didn't want me to have the job there was nothing I could do to get it.

Much to my suprise, at 10:00 the very next morning I got a call from the staffing agency who set up the interview. They told me that Cooper T. Smith had offered me the position! I tried to hold in my emotion (since I was sitting at my desk at work) but I'm sure I was smiling from ear to ear! Later in the day I talked with the person who interviewed me to ask her a few questions. I told her that everything sounded great but that I'd like to take the night to think about it. Robyn and I talked about it that night, and it was very clear that this was the job we've been waiting for.

So on Thursday morning I met with my boss and let him know that I would be leaving. He congratulated me and told me that it sounds like a great opportunity. Just after that I called the person who interviewed me to officially accept, only to find out that she doesn't work on Thursday! I was able to talk to her today (Friday) and told her that I was very happy to accept the job offer. My first day with them will be April 9. Please pray that the transition will be as smooth as possible, and thank you so much to all of you who have been praying already!

20 weeks down, 20 weeks to go

We are now halfway to our due date! Several people have asked lately how Robyn has been feeling--the morning sickness has all but gone away (except for occassional queasyness) and we are very thankful for that.

This week's email from babycenter.com didn't compare Baby V to a food, but it did say that she grew about 1/2 inch last week and gained 2 more ounces. Here is a picture that shows her development:

If Robyn is up for it, and right now she says she is, we will post a picture of her belly sometime soon. And if you're lucky I'll post a picture of mine too.

Baby Bedding Part 2

The baby bedding has arrived! We both love it and were sorry to have to pack it away in a closet. The colors are a little different than they look on the website, but not too different - just a little less vibrant. We're very excited!

Baby Bedding

As Robyn said in the last post, we picked out baby V's bedding yesterday! We bought the bumper pad, quilt, and bed skirt. We both thought that the sheet that comes with the set was too busy, so we didn't get it. We're both very excited about taking the first step to getting the nursery ready.

p.s. we hope that "madeline" won't be embroidered on the quilt when we get it ;)

Baby Z

Baby V is now Baby Z...well, for this week she is. According to the weekly e-mail I receive she is about 8.5 ounces, and 6 inches long - about the length of zucchini. Also, her arms and legs are now proportionate to each other and to her body. Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. The hair on her scalp is sprouting! I really want her to have lots of hair so I can put bows in it - I love baby girls with bows in their hair!!!

I had a bad/sad dream last night about getting bad news while I was at the Dr's office, so please continue to pray against fear.

On a lighter note, I just ordered the bedding for the crib! Nick and I both love it and can't wait to start decorating the nursery! The bedding is from Pottery Barn Kids and its called Madeline, if you want to look at it.

How Sweet!

I am now 18 weeks and 1 day pregnant - almost halfway through my pregnancy! Crazy! My ultrasound went well last week and we were happy to have our parents there to share in our joy! Thanks parents for making the effort to be there! As you know, we found out its a girl (it's really fun to be able to specify a gender now). I was quite shocked b/c I had a feeling that it was a boy -what do I know, I'm just carrying the baby. All of her other measurements are normal and she weighs 7 ounces! She sure was an active little thing and she even waved at us at one point. Our ultrasound tech was so sweet - she didn't mind that we brought 5 people with us, and she kept saying, "She's so cute"...can you really tell that on a ultrasound? Maybe she tells that to all of her patients, but we like to think not. This week Baby V is about the size of a SWEET POTATO. This is better than an onion b/c Nick and I both like sweet potatoes. My belly continues to grow as Little Miss Sweet Potato develops. Perhaps I'll post a picture of my belly soon...we'll see.
